BALI TRADITIONAL COSTUMES are known for their vibrant colors and intricate designs. They are often worn for special occasions such as temple ceremonies, weddings, and cultural performances.

For men, the traditional Balinese costume consists of a white or colored shirt with a collar, paired with a sarong, which is a long piece of cloth wrapped around the waist and legs. The sarong is often made of batik or ikat fabric and features various patterns and colors.

For women, the traditional costume is known as a “kebaya” and consists of a tight-fitting blouse with a traditional design and a long skirt made of batik or songket fabric. The kebaya is often paired with a selendang, which is a long scarf worn around the waist or shoulders.

You may be familiar with the Balinese signature style of costume. Yes, you can see the Balinese people wearing traditional attire when there are ceremonies or events. In temples or historical places, it is mandatory to wear Balinese traditional clothing to enter.

Every district in Bali has its own style, but, the use and its parts are the same.first level and also the highest level called “Payas Agung”. This level of traditional clothing reflects luxury, wealth, and glory.  Payas Agung makes the wearer appear as kings and queens thanks to its elaborate accessories including the Keris (traditional dagger for men), earrings, necklaces, crown and many more.

second level is call “Adat Lengkap”. This types of costume are less elaborate than the Payas Agung, meant more to show respect and politeness.

third level of Balinese traditional clothing is call Adat Madya. At this level, the most casual version of Balinese traditional clothing, the men would only wear Udeng, sarong, and Selendang and the women will wear sarong and Selendang.
